A Tale of Two Whitehouses
Along the Bay of Naples high style comes in discreet doses.
Hailed as the Delano of the Almalfi, Casa Angelina has turned the “quaint” whitewashed villa image inside out — with chic white-on-white interiors (pictured) and furnishings by Philippe Starck. Now, the Praiano retreat’s panoramic views of the Med are about to get some on-site competition: this summer, it unveils a new outdoor infinity pool, which accompanies an existing indoor pool where dips are taken beneath a canopy of fiber optic stars. The Stein-owned property (they’re just about the fastest growing “lifestyle” hotel group in Europe right now) will also debut its spruced-up spa and expanded gym.
Angelina’s lavish revamp comes just in time to welcome new rival J.K. Place Capri, right across the bay. Hovering over Marina Grande, the exclusive lodging commands equally fabulous vistas from Italy’s A-list island. Add to that a terraced garden restaurant, the island’s first ESPA spa, and the sort of attentive, no-attitude service that made the original J.K., in Florence, so seductive. And yes, the 22-room hotel’s exterior is whitewashed — it-designer Michele Bonan, however, warms up the interiors with a colorful palette of muted yellows, blues and violets.
