Atlantis reinvents summer camp
Forget roasting marshmallows on an open fire, or building tepees in the mosquito-infested forest. Atlantis, a Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas, has a whole new way to entertain your kids — excuse us, “edutain” your kids — this summer. With the opening of a brand new, 8,000-square-foot kids club this year (think: touch-screen walls, tables and floors; an iMac computer room; culinary kitchen; and sound booth), the resort is offering a roster of specialized Fantasy Camps.
We’re talking Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Fantasy Camp (August 2-6), where youngsters ages 7-17 can learn how to shake their booty cheer and dance from the most renowned football cheerleading squads in the country. Or for the, er, manlier set (ages 6-12) there’s a Lego Fantasy Camp (July 26-30) led by “LEGO Master Builders.” And since Atlantis is equipped with a huge open-air marine habitat — 50,000 animals live in saltwater lagoons and freshwater tanks — there’s naturally a Marine Adventure Fantasy Camp (July 26-30, August 9-13) in which kids, ages 10-14, can go behind the scenes with the resort’s marine experts.
Of course, the best part is what mommy and daddy get to do while the kids’ fantasies are being fulfilled: relaxing with a Caribbean Coffee Scrub treatment in the spa, or tucking into Nobu sushi are just a few things Atlantis has in mind.
