Celebrity-Chef Showdown
The biggest names in cooking are still clamoring to make it in Hollywood.
Primo celebrity chefs who’ve been battling it out in Hollywood-the-industry are now taking it to the streets of Los Angeles. Wolfgang Puck, Tinseltown’s original celebrity chef, launched the pre-emptive strike last month with his seventh area restaurant — the Asian-inspired Red Seven, at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Now, a trio of TV invaders — all of them multi Michelin-star superstars — are steeling themselves for attack. On July 13, Top Chef heavyweight Tom Colicchio opens the west coast outpost of his much feted New York restaurant, Craft. The Avenue of the Stars eatery is — it just so happens — right next to CAA, the biggest talent agency in town. On the same day, Mario Batali of Iron Chef is opening his long-awaited Italian restaurant, Osteria Mozza (as in mozzarella), in Hollywood.
And then there’s the Gordon Ramsay “offensive”: the Hell’s Kitchen star plans to lure diners to The London West Hollywood, an all-suites hotel slated to open December. And while he may be late to the fray, he’s brought a secret weapon from home. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, he’ll be partnering with A-list couple David and Victoria Beckham — whose formal introduction to L.A. happens this Friday when Becks is unveiled as the world’s sexiest soccer brand.
