Spa Spat: Trump vs. Palmer

Which hotel will win the title of Chicago's singular sanctum for rejuvenation?

The name Donald Trump may not be synonymous with beauty — but the infamously coiffed mogul is out to change that with the March 17 launch of his first spa. The 23,000-square-foot Spa at Trump is part of the new Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago — a 92-story high-rise that introduces the new Trump Hotel Collection (which, sorry Donald, will be pitifully dwarfed by Santiago Calatrava’s 150-floor Spire that’ll be America’s tallest building when completed in 2011). The Spa features products by celebrity-favorite Kate Somerville and “Trump-inspired” treatments (let’s hope that means Ivanka, not Donald). Plus, guests get personal “spa attachés” to usher them from one blinged-out treatment to the next — such as a $300 Revitalizing Rubies Massage that uses oils infused with precious stones.

But nipping at The Donald’s heels just one mile south will be Spa Chakra, a new wellness haven opening May within the Palmer House Hilton (pictured). A 1920s Beaux-Arts beauty, the Palmer House Hilton just emerged from a $150 million facelift that also added 54 new suites. The “modest” 8,000-square-foot Spa Chakra will house 12 treatment rooms, a footbath lounge and hair salon. Though don’t expect the Trump Cut to be offered in honor of their rival.
