The Life Adriatic

Hotel Adriana adds more heat to Hvar's sexy scene.

Since the American press crowned Croatia’s Dalmatian coast and its Adriatic archipelago “the next Riviera,” hotel service has struggled to keep up with the nation’s new glam image. Until now. Hotel Adriana, Croatia’s first Leading Hotels of the World member, officially opens tomorrow on the archipelago’s it-island, Hvar. The hedonistic heart of the Riviera, Hvar has been considered among the sexiest islands in the world and one of the sunniest spots in Europe. Set alongside the marina promenade, Hotel Adriana perhaps hopes to lure such billionaires and beauties as Bill Gates and Gwyneth Paltrow, who flock to the region for its 77-degree waters and storybook shoreline of medieval towns. Drink in the vistas from the rooftop pool and lounge bar, or if you grow tired of watching the marina yacht parade, turn your gaze to the town’s main square — the largest in the Mediterranean after Venice’s San Marco. Oh, and if the architecture reminds you of the Sinking City, it’s because it dates back to the four centuries when Italian seafarers ruled Hvar.
