It’s not even February, yet Mallorca is already hotting up for the spring season. The German Spanish island, known as the more collected cousin to neighboring Ibiza, has a new address for country luxe: The Villa. The three-level self-catering finca is the latest addition to the Orient-Express Hotels Mediterranean portfolio, and is situated just a few minutes from a private beach, and also from La Residencia. Itself an Orient-Express property, La Residencia is a converted sixteenth-century manor house that will re-open February 16 with an additional eight new suites — overlooking the mountain village of Deia, where Robert Graves penned his best work. Mallorca’s major opening this year, however, comes in March, when L’Avenida in Soller gives the island’s prettiest town even more bragging rights (in addition to its scenic orange groves and nineteenth-century wooden train). The colonial-style mansion hotel promises retro-chic interiors (with original marble staircase and frescos), as well as jaw-dropping views of the Tramuntana mountains.
