There Goes the Neighborhood

Lust meets luxe with the arrival of Four Seasons Seattle.

The Four Seasons opens today in downtown Seattle, and there’s one notable omission from its list of nearby attractions. Sure, the famed Pike Place Market is just a few minutes walk away and the Seattle Art Museum is directly across the street. But also on the same block as the 21-story hotel is another local landmark: the Lusty Lady peepshow. Known as much for its playful marquees (such as “Fall Flashins / All Clothes 100% Off”) as for its nude dancing, the Lady’s squat turn-of-the-century building makes the perfect foil to its sleek new neighbor.

The $150 million glass-and-stone hotel counts 147 rooms — 13 of which are suites — and 36 permanent residences. Guestrooms boast plasma screens, iPod docks and floor-to-ceiling windows that, with its harborside location, enjoy uninterrupted views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The building’s U-shaped footprint also allows for a fourth-floor patio where a Zen Garden and outdoor fireplace surround an infinity pool that seems to feed into Elliott Bay.

If that’s not enough natural charm, come January the Emerald City will get its greenest (and tallest) hotel yet. The Hyatt at Olive 8 expects to be Seattle’s first LEED-certified hotel, due largely to 14,500 square feet of living roof (the largest in town). The 39-story hotel/condo tower is topped with 24,000 plants that reduce energy costs, cut runoff and make a home for local wildlife. Other eco highlights include a regionally-sourced restaurant, organic treatments at Elaia spa and a 64-foot pool and Jacuzzi that ditch chlorine for a saltwater purification system. With amenities like this you might never venture beyond the Olive’s dramatic blue-glass walls. But if you do, keep in mind: the Lusty Lady is just a 12-minute walk away.
