Destroy a piece of history at legendary Paris hotel
Today is the official “demolition party” at the Hotel Royal Monceau in Paris. In anticipation of a complete redesign, the hotel auctioned off all of its furnishings last week — everything from lamps to minibars. Now, the owners are holding a VIP destruction event where guests are encouraged to smash anything leftover. In between fits of annihilation, partygoers can enjoy performances from select Parisian musicians and DJs.
Afterwards, the hotel will undergo a yearlong refurbishment by the ubiquitous Philippe Starck. The hotel originally opened its doors in 1928 and has entertained everyone from Ernest Hemingway to Britney Spears. Billionaire entrepreneur Alexandre Allard bought the Monceau last year and wants to attract a younger crowd with a new “art deco revisited” motif. To give you an idea, have a look at some of Starck’s other creations. To learn more about these special-invitation smash-ups, read how the Hotel Alcalá did it last year.
