Fashion Forward

Move over, Armani Hotels — it's the year of Missoni. And Edinburgh kicks it off.

Known for loud prints and unconventional styles, the Missoni fashion house is now dipping its toes into tartan. No, the Italian design dynasty won’t be making kilts; but come June, it will launch the inaugural Hotel Missoni in Scotland’s capital city — a favorite of Rosita Missoni, the label’s cofounder.

Set amid the medieval buildings that line the Royal Mile, the contemporary Hotel Missoni brings some Italian flair to Edinburgh’s stately Old Town. With interiors by Matteo Thun (the man behind many of Missoni’s global boutique stores) and creative direction from Rosita herself, the hotel features 136 rooms and seven suites, all furnished compliments of Missoni Home (we hear they know a guy there).

But the fashion branding isn’t limited to guestrooms: In case you forget where you, there’s Bar Missoni and Cucina Missoni to remind you. The bar will mix classic cocktails and Missoni signature drinks, while Cucina will, naturally, cook up Italian classics (you weren’t expecting haggis, were you?). And since this is the start of a new brand (managed by Rezidor), you’ll find the foundation for a Hotel Missoni trademark: at the main entrance, a massive pair of mosaic urns (pictured) will introduce each property’s color palate — in Edinburgh’s case, a monochromatic mix of black, white and silver.

For the more vibrant colors you’ve come to expect from Missoni, you’ll have to wait until later this summer for Hotel Missoni Kuwait (guestrooms pictured). Featuring saturated gold and turquoise hues, the 169-room Kuwait City property finds its inspiration in the Arabian Gulf beaches that it overlooks. Like Edinburgh, all rooms will have ample AV-bling, including wiring for laptops and iPods to operate through a 26-inch LCD screen. And fitting for the Italian brand, Missoni Kuwait will also offer an indoor/outdoor coffee shop, Choco Café, to ensure that all visitors fill their daily espresso quota.
