Go to the beach this weekend — in New York’s Central Park
If you’re having dreams of Mediterranean beaches, then Tel Aviv may be calling you. Still, if you’re stuck in New York this Sunday, Tel Aviv will come to you.
For one day only, the Central Park Mall, near the bandshell, transforms into a beach like one would find in Israel’s second largest city — which, not so coincidentally, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
Israeli music, games of matkot, beach chairs and umbrellas will set the scene — not to mention 30 tons of sand. The “beach” will be open from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m., and admission is free. But if you’re not in New York this weekend, Tel Aviv will also set up beaches in Vienna (through September 1) and Copenhagen (July 25-August 2).
