New hotel marks Philippe Starck’s Italian debut
He’s done Paris, L.A. and Miami. This week, Philippe Starck conquers Venice with the opening of Palazzina Grassi (literal translation: “fat mansion” — and proof that everything sounds better in Italian). Each of the hotel’s 26 rooms are outfitted with furniture of Starck’s own design — but only the suites come with private elevator access and terraces overlooking the Grand Canal. And while the hotel’s facade and central colonnade date back to the 16th-century, history doesn’t end there: the property is situated on the ruins of a Roman spa.
