New Zealand welcomes its first boutique vineyard-resort
Langham Hotels has announced plans for New Zealand’s first five-star boutique vineyard resort, to be located on Waiheke Island. Named Langham Place, the 78-room, Tuscan-themed resort aims to capitalize on the nation’s burgeoning wine industry. When it opens in 2010, the Langham will highlight local grapes in a dedicated restaurant and wine estate, as well as an interactive wine theater. Waiheke Island, whose climate produces grapes similar to France’s Bordeaux region, is a 35-minute ferry ride to New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland. And, fortunately for impatient wine tourists, it’s a mere eight minutes by helicopter.
