Sicily’s most glamorous town just got a bit more polish

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Orient Express has some of the loveliest, most romantic hotels in Italy — have you seen the Hotel Caruso? Well, add two more to the list: the Grand Hotel Timeo and Villa Sant’Andrea, both located in the ridiculously idyllic hilltop town of Taormina, Sicily.

After acquiring the properties earlier this year, Orient Express closed them for refurbishments. This week, both hotels debut fresh looks. Located near Taormina’s iconic amphitheater, the 72-room Grand Hotel Timeo, whose guests have included Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor, overlooks Sicily’s eastern coast and the bay beyond. Meanwhile, Villa Sant’Andrea — once a private home — sits right on the water with its own private beach. But don’t worry — if you want to access the center of town, you don’t have to hoof it uphill. You’re just a three-minute cable-car ride away.
