Sip, Sup, Setai

Good luck working your way through one of Miami's most prodigious wine lists.

It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it: when Miami’s swanky Setai hotel created a glass-encased, floor-to-ceiling wine “cellar” — an aboveground storage room also used for tastings — the sommelier staff had to slog through a blind tasting of 300 reds. Needless to say, they got to know their wines — and, as it turns out, their winemakers too. Tomorrow, the hotel kicks off an exclusive series of four winemakers’ dinners in which guests can chat up the very vintners who made the vino they’ll be sipping from New Zealand, Argentina and France.

Each night begins with aperitifs in the sexy candlelit courtyard — one of the hottest hangouts in this well-heeled, high-heeled party town. After you’ve had your fill of the signature chili-spiked martini, you’ll move into The Restaurant for a five-course meal prepared by the Setai’s new it-chef Jonathan Wright. Formerly of Raffles Singapore and Michelin-starred Le Manoir Aux Quat Saisons in Oxfordshire, Wright aims to roll out a new Asian-centric menu in October. But you can get a sneak peek right now — and for a bargain too. Until the end of the month, discounted Miami Spice menus (showcasing 85 of the city’s top restaurants), will keep your wallet as stuffed as your overindulged stomach.
