Take a tour of NYC’s ‘hoods in Manhattan’s newest hotel
The New York-themed hotels just keep on coming. Opening today in midtown-west is the 155-room Distrikt hotel — purposefully spelled with a “k” in deference to New York’s original Dutch settlers. At check-in, look closely at the wood carving behind the desk — it’s a map of Manhattan’s streets. And to navigate the city’s infamous underground, consult the elevator banks for subway maps.
Each floor in the 32-story hotel features a collage of a Manhattan neighborhood, starting with the Financial District on the bottom floor and working up through East Harlem. The Distrikt even has its own piece of Central Park in the form of a 12-foot living wall in the lobby.
While the building seems like your typical Manhattan skyscraper, look closer and you’ll see a floral pattern on the façade — the Distrikt now stands in what was once called the city’s Bloomingdale district.
