Virginia: America’s grape escape
Centuries after Thomas Jefferson tried to create a viable wine region in Virginia, Keswick Hall is celebrating the state’s burgeoning viticulture. A lavish mansion set on 600 acres of Jefferson’s former Monticello estate, Keswick Hall, an Orient-Express hotel, just launched its Wine Escape package. Guests enjoy a wine tasting and nearby vineyard tour, followed by a five-course dinner at the hotel’s award-winning restaurant. Afterwards, they can drink another glass at the Keswick Bar, which doubles as the tasting room for Blenheim vineyards — owned by local Charlottesville resident and Grammy winner Dave Matthews.
For the true oenophile, the package can be upgraded to include the spa’s new “Keswick Reserve” vinotherapy regime — a veritable grape orgy of body treatments including grape seed oil massage, Shiraz body scrub, red wine body mask and Pinot Noir facial. For those who can handle this vino overload, the Wine Escape package is available through November.
