The popularity of cooking school vacations has risen faster than a soufflé. And among the trend’s hottest zones is the American southwest, where the Santa Fe School of Cooking is offering the Insider’s Culinary Adventure from July 9-August 27. “Santa Fe is a crossroad for New Mexican, Mexican and Native American cuisine,” says Nicole Ammerman, who with her cookbook co-author (and mom), Susan Curtis, runs the school. Their course — one of 30 that spotlights the region’s multicultural gastronomy — starts at the school with a taste of the New Mexican chile (rarely obtainable outside the state, Ammerman told globorati). From there you’ll take a walking-and-nibbling tour of the City Different’s standout restaurants, including James Campbell Caruso’s tapas spot, La Boca. The adventure culminates with a visit to the Institute of American Indian Arts where you’ll join James Beard award-winning author Lois Ellen Frank for a sampling of contemporary Native American culture — both culinary and visual.
